What is the reception quality of the TV CF Card?

The reception quality is similar to a portable TV and a lot depends on the signal strength provided by your local television stations in the area. Here is a demo video of the TV CF Card at a location where signal strength is strong enough:

The TV CF Card is designed to use its telescopic antenna for TV reception outdoors. Good reception generally requires a direct line of sight between the TV broadcast station and the TV receiver. In a densely populated area with tall buildings or inside a moving vehicle, TV reception can be complicated by the lack of direct line of sight reception between the TV broadcast station and the TV receiver. When you use the TV CF Card indoor, the TV signal is generally poor and we advise you to connect the RF-IN socket of the TV CF Card to the wall TV antenna outlet or an external antenna to get a strong signal.

Note: Reception of over-the-air broadcast may not work if TV signal is not strong enough when the TV CF Card is:

Far away from or extremely close to a TV broadcast station
Behind mountain or a building
In a car or traveling train
Near high voltage power lines, neon lights or a mobile phone transmitting base station
Near train tracks or express ways or underneath airplane routes
In underground locations, tunnels or tightly sealed buildings
In other places where there is strong signal interference or TV signals are interrupted

Why can't the TV CF Card's Autoscan function detect a channel?

If Autoscan cannot pickup a channel, You can interrupt Autoscan by tapping on the screen during scanning and then use CH+ / CH- and then use the fine tune F++ / F-- to search for a channel. If you still cannot find the channel, this means the signal strength provided by the local TV stations is too weak in the area. You will need to connect to an external antenna to boost up the signal.

Does the TV CF Card support VGA display of the Toshiba e800?

The Toshiba e800 comes with user selectable Pocket PC standard of QVGA (320 x 240) as well as full VGA resolution of 640x480. However, the TV CF Card can only support the Toshiba in QVGA 320 x 240. This means that you can only get the EOps TV program in full screen view in 320 x 240. If you have setup the Toshiba e800 in VGA mode, the TV CF Card EOps TV program would be shown on the top left hand corner of the screen and occupies only a quarter of the screen.

How long can I watch TV on the Pocket PC with the TV CF Card?

You can generally watch up to 2.5 hours of TV using the TV CF Card with 4 new AAA alkaline batteries. But the actual performance depends on the Pocket PC model. For all the Pocket PCs that we have tested, the operation life is between 1.5 hours and 2.5 hours, depending on the capacity of the Pocket PC's internal battery.

The reason is that the TV CF Card gets its power from both the 4AAA batteries and the Pocket PC. The 4 AAA batteries of the TV CF card is used solely to power the analog TV tuner module while the internal battery of the Pocket PC powers the communication in the CF slot between the TV CF Card and the Pocket PC.

For other Pocket PC models with lower capacity battery, the operation time will be lowered. Please note that although the power the TV CF Card obtained from the CF slot of the Pocket PC is small, a lot of battery power is required to power the LCD screen for the display of video.
When we designed the power circuit of the TV CF Card, we try to maximize the operation life taking into consideration the power capacity from the 4 AAA batteries and the power capacity of a range of Pocket PCs.

Why can I still use AV-IN to watch video from a connected portable DVD player when there are no batteries in the TV CF Card?

If there is no power in the 4 AAA batteries of the TV CF Card, you can still use the AV-IN to connect to your portable DV D player and use the Pocket PC screen as monitor. The reason is that the internal battery of the Pocket PC supplies the CF slot communication as well as the video digitizing circuit and the audio output for the AV-IN.

Why does a Pocket PC turn off after a few minutes of use with the TV CF Card?

The Pocket PC operating system is defaulted to turn off the device and screen light if not used for a period of time. To prevent disruption of watching video with the TV CF Card, please disabled these functions in the settings setup of the Pocket PC (please refer to your Pocket PC's operating manual).

Why is there no sound from the TV CF Card?

Perhaps you might have pushed the volume control and activated mute. In the case, you will see a message ¡§Mute¡¨ on the top of the screen in portrait mode. There is no Mute indicator in landscape mode.

Moreover, in the case of the TV CF Card P-01 (PAL version), you might have selected the wrong PAL sound system. The P-01 supports PAL-B/G, PAL-I and PAL D/K sound system. You will need to tap ¡§PAL Sound¡¨ button to select the correct PAL sound system in your country in order to get the audio.

How do I improve the picture quality of the TV CF Card?

Regarding the quality of the output, it depends on the screen of your Pocket PC. But most Pocket PC have transflective TFT LCD screen which means the picture quality is much better than passive STN LCD screen normally used on handheld TV. Moreover, Pocket PC with faster processor can achieve higher frame rate. The picture can be displayed in both portrait and landscape mode at up to 30 frames per second. The actual frame rate depends on the bandwidth of the actual CF slot which varies with different Pocket PC models. Because there is a bandwidth constraint in the CF slot, we have implemented the QUALITY button such that the user can customize between high frame rate with lower resolution (e.g. for action movie, sports events) or high resolution with lower frame rate (e.g. for news / stock prices).

For the US version TV CF Card N-01, if the price is in Hong Kong dollars from your online shop, how do I know what is charged to my credit card? Also what is the delivery time?

We are a Hong Kong based company thus our e-commerce engine is set to invoice only in Hong Kong dollar (HKD). Hong Kong dollar is pegged (set) to the US dollar at 1 US dollar to 7.8 Hong Kong dollar without much foreign exchange movement. Your credit card will be charged around USD 129 plus the shipping cost.

Orders from our online shop will be processed within 2-3 working days if the product is in stock. We ship our goods from Hong Kong. The approximate date your product will arrive depends on your international shipping destination. The total delivery time is expected to be 5-7 working days, being the sum of the order processing time of 2-3 working days and the shipping time of 3-4 working days. When I use your online shop, I never saw the security icon and I did not know if the site was secure. Can you advise in this regard?

After you pressed "checkout", the web-pages onwards are actually secured, especially when you entered your credit card details. You can right click the page, and click "properties", then you will see "SSL 3.0, RC4 with 128 bit encryption (High); RSA with 1024 bit exchange".

Please could you explain why it is not compatible with IPAQ 3800 / 3900 but compatible with newer handhelds?

While we try to make our CF TV card compatible with as many of the current range of Pocket PCs as possible, therein does lie some difficulty that prevents us from being 'universally' compatible. The IPAQ 3800 and 3900, popular models indeed, are the ones that we cannot overcome technically. The reason is that the high speed digitized video signal from our TV CF Card becomes unstable while passing through the interface of the IPAQ 3800 and 3900.

NOTEBOOK PC Driver (Version 1.0) for Windows XP (32-bit) ¡V not compatible with Windows XP 64 bit: The version 1.0 driver for Notebook PC allows a user to use the TV CF Card with Windows XP32 bit notebook (Pentium 4 ¡V M 2GHz or above with at least 256MB RAM and built-in soundcard with line-in / microphone socket). If your notebook PC only has PCMCIA slot but not CF I/O slot, then you need to buy a CF-to-PCMCIA adapter (not included). Also, if you want to capture sound with video, you need to buy a 3.5mm stereo cable (not included) to connect the earphone jack of the TV CF Card to the line-in / microphone socket of your notebook. Please read the specification document for systems requirements and also follow the instructions in the User¡¦s Guide (PDF file) before installation.
